Zeno Jones
Louisville - Kentucky - United States

"Disillusion Blues" is the first full-length album released by Zeno Jones, and was recorded on May 24, 2023 at Top Hill Recording. Originally inspired by a 4 song EP recorded in the same studio the previous summer, a single session on that muggy Kentucky evening was all that was needed to lay down 12 live tracks. To capture the tone and feel of a mid-century Memphis blues recording, Jones plugged directly into a cranked up tube amp which was kept out in the hall, leaving the intimate recording studio to be filled with growling vocals and the hypnotic driving of his percussive feet.

Hailing from the historic river town of Louisville, Zeno Jones takes the old delta blues and lights them on fire with Kentucky moonshine. With a guitar howling like it was recorded in a runaway cement mixer while keeping up with the frantic beat of an old suitcase drum and a rusty tambourine, he belts out raw vocals with a level of energy which can only be explained as a genuine attempt to give himself religion. Jones’ fervor will have you either stomping your foot through the floor or calling the police. Audiences are struck by the ferocity, originality and fresh take on the prewar blues, roots and gospel material Zeno takes inspiration and pays homage to. This album captures the live energy, while keeping a rawness to it, but with a studio polish.

Each original song pays tribute to blues greats like Bukka White, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, RL Burnside, Joe Hill Louis- perhaps most notable on songs like “If You Wanna Leave”, “Nobody Knockin’” and “No More”. Jones also pays homage to gospel influenced acts like Blind Willie Johnson, Reverend Deadeye and the Kentucky Trio in songs like“Disillusion Blues” and “Cold Beverage (Stonewater) Blues”.
*Best enjoyed with a high-proof bourbon on a hot, southern summer night.
