Review of Album Lindsay Beaver & Brad Stivers

With minimal assistance, Lindsay Beaver and Brad Stivers stretch out the guitar/drums duo format while maintaining its stripped-to-the-studs appeal.  The Austin-based twosome mixes shuffles, ballads and vintage r&b sounds into this varied and tasty original set.  The two-part vocal features in particular should garner attention: the leadoff track “One Condition” and the Don and Dewey-ish upbeat ballad “It’s Love”. The decidedly not-shabby axework on the instrumental “Slim Pickin’” deserves a nod as well.
