Drawing upon blues, folk and, particularly, traditional jazz, Luke Winslow-King has created a fresh sounding set that re-casts these roots in a most pleasant, very personal sounding manner.  The New Orleans-based singer/guitarist/songwriter’s vocals, sung frequently in tandem with spouse Esther Rose, typically give off a breezy, back-porch vibe that syncs up well especially with the jazzy fare. Breaking with the mostly “up” nature of the set, “Graveyard Blues” evokes a very Randy Newman-like balladeering- both sympathetically sad and a bit disturbing.  Other tracks of note include “Levee Man”, “Swing That Thing”, “La Bega’s Carousel” and “Domino Sugar”.
