Review of Album This Cowboy

 

With a deep country baritone as classic as they come, and a real knack for the sort of “story songs” that once were the mainstay of country music, RW Hampton offers up a set both exquisitely throwback and genuine-sounding in character.  Unapologetically patriotic in both his originals and in cover selection (Johnny Cash’s “Ragged Old Flag”), this genuine Texas-born cowboy conveys a real-deal credibility to go with his masterful vocals.  Standouts include “Don’t Tell Me”, “My Country’s Not For Sale” and “Hell in a Helmet”.
