Review of Album Frank and Vinny: Swing Zing!

 

 

The guitar duet format is celebrated as well-traveled stage and studio guitarists Vignola and Raniolo serve up course after course of old school swing seasoned with a nice touch of dazzle.  Pinpoint technique abounds, in service of masterfully melodic improvisations on swing classics including “Cheek To Cheek”, “September Song” and “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You”.  Guitar master Bucky Pizzarelli is on the guest list as is gypsy jazz phenom Olli Soikeli, the latter adding his own jaw-dropping fretwork on “Joseph Joseph”.
