Review of Album Panhandle Rambler

The venerable West Texas troubadour is in fine form on this quietly captivating set; one adorned with masterful backup and classic Ely features: vivid, seductive word-pictures and a barely-beneath-the-surface emotional current in his ballads.  That current, incidentally, comes across by way of a voice that hasn’t lost its punch in four decades-plus.  Standouts include “Wounded Creek”, “Coyotes Are Howlin’” and “Wonderin’ Where”.
