The plain-spoken nature of Zephaniah Ohora’s lyrics could make them pass for conversation just as easily as for words to a song. And the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter’s understated country balladeer delivery makes for an ideal match. Superb retro studio play provides the final touches to tracks including the leadoff ballad “Way Down In My Soul”, the tear-jerker “He Can Have Tomorrow (I’ll Take Yesterday)”, the Merle-flavored “I Do Believe I’ve Had Enough”, the dark, disturbing “I Can’t Let Go (Even Though I set You Free)” and the Glen Campbell-esque “High Class City Girl From The Country”.
