Review of Album Get Your Groove!

Allman Brothers spinoffs alumnus keyboardist Bruce Katz here states a decidedly fresh sounding case for the joined-at-the-hip relationship between blues and jazz.  Working a spectrum from classic jazz organ format to a rockin’ piano-and-rhythm lineup, Mr. Katz balances invention and soul in a most ear-pleasing manner; the groove being the constant.  His jam-band roots show on “Freight Train” and the sassy NOLA-flavored title track takes some quirky thematic turns.  Other standouts include the splendidly angular “Beef Jerky” and the “after hours” mood piece “River Blues”.
