Kicking off with the gut-punching “Ebony Man”- evoking the “story songs” that populated the soul and country charts of the ‘70’s- Vaneese Thomas works her way through a top-notch stack of soulful and lyrically meaty blues, ballads and burners.  Matching her vocal power with emotional clout, track after track, Ms. T’s work here is a pride-worthy addition to the legacy of the r&b royalty that is her family. (That would be father Rufus and sister Carla).  Other standouts in a kick-butt set include “I Tried”, “Second Chance” and “Last Kiss”.
